Smoking and burning ban: Increased risk of wildfires

Due to the ongoing drought and weather forecast, starting August 16, a smoking and stoking ban is in effect in Opsterland. This is on the advice of the fire department.

Take care with fire in nature and outdoors

In forests and natural areas you may not smoke or light fires. This is prohibited. Also in the rest of the municipality you may not light fires in the open air. Just one cigarette butt or piece of glass can cause a big fire. The fire department warns: a small mistake can cause great damage in nature.

Therefore, be careful and responsible with fire.

Fire in your own garden

You may still make fire in your own garden, such as with a barbecue or fire basket. But be careful:

  • Never leave the fire alone.
  • Have a bucket of water ready.
  • Dryness in your garden can also cause fires.

Tips to prevent fire

  • Do not smoke in nature, including small patches of greenery near your home.
  • Use barbecues and fire pits safely and according to the rules.
  • Do not park your car in tall, dry grass, including near your home.
  • Throw trash in the trash can, especially glass.
  • Do not use weed burners.
  • Do not throw away burning or smoldering things, such as cigarettes or charcoal.

Together we keep Opsterland safe and green!
