Ukrainian delegation visits Opsterland
From June 23 to July 5, the municipality of Opsterland will receive two representatives from Nedryhailiv, Ukraine. The visit takes place within the European exchange program TIPS4UA (Training and Internship Program Support for Ukrainian Municipalities), which aims to share knowledge and strengthen the administrative capacity of Ukrainian municipalities.
Delegation
The delegation consists of the mayor of Nedryhailyv and the head of the Housing and Public Works Department. During their stay, they will get to know local government and various social and public organizations in Opsterland and Friesland.
A broad program
The program includes meetings with the Municipal Executive, working visits to organizations such as Maatwurk, Wetterskip Fryslân, Omrin, Revalidatie Friesland and Caparis, and a presentation during a meeting of the Association of Frisian Municipalities (VFG). Attention is also given to participation, sustainability, youth work and innovative municipal projects.
Collaboration
The cooperation between Nedryhailiv and Opsterland goes back quite some time. From Opsterland, relief goods have already been sent to Nedryhailiv several times. The place is located in the Soemy region.
The contact arose from shared values around local democracy and community development, and offers opportunities for mutual inspiration and support. For example, the Opsterland municipality can learn from the various forms of crisis management applied by Nedryhailiv. Alderman Rob Jonkman: "It is important to support Ukrainian municipalities. By sharing knowledge and engaging in conversation, we build lasting relationships and contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine. In the process, we also learn a lot ourselves."
The visit is another step in the growing relationship between Opsterland and Nedryhailiv and underlines the importance of European solidarity and cooperation at the local level.
