Opsterland municipality works on new mobility plan: heading into the future together
The world around us is changing rapidly. Cars are becoming electric, the climate demands different choices and not everyone can get around easily. That is why the municipality of Opsterland is looking ahead. We are working on a new mobility plan: a future-oriented vision for traffic and transport in our villages and the outlying area.
Accessible to all
Our goal is clear: a municipality where everyone can get around comfortably and safely - now and in the future. Whether you travel by car, take a bike, walk or depend on public transportation.
More space in villages, more charging spots
We also look explicitly at parking in the plan. Where is the car indispensable, and where can we give more space to pedestrians, cyclists or green spaces? We also want to provide enough charging stations for electric cars - in places where they are really needed.
Sustainable and smart on the go
In the new plan, we commit to:
- a fast bicycle route to Heerenveen and Drachten, especially for commuters
- sufficient charging points for electric vehicles
- better and accessible public transportation
- safe and attractive routes for walkers and bicyclists
Challenges we face together
Every municipality also has difficult issues. In Opsterland, these issues, among others, require extra attention:
- the increasing transportation needs of elderly residents
- creeping traffic from the A7
- heavy agricultural traffic on village roads
- maintenance of roads and roadsides
From vision to action
The current Mobility Plan is now 14 years old. High time for a fresh look that ties in with the 2023-2040 Environmental Vision. In the new mobility plan, we outline a clear vision of mobility. From that vision we will later work on a concrete package of measures.
Your opinion counts
We think it is important to make this plan together with residents and partners. Therefore we would like to hear your opinion. What do you find important when it comes to traffic, transport and accessibility? What bottlenecks do you experience? And what could be improved?
All responses are collected and carefully reviewed. We cannot include everything, but your input helps us make sharp choices and set the right priorities.
Together we ensure an accessible, safe and sustainable Opsterland.
